Commentary

The idea of firstfruits in the Bible is brought up many times in the Bible. For those who grew food for a living, firstfruits was really clear. It was the first of your crop. So, if you gave God your first, there was no chance of just giving God your leftovers. You’ve been looking forward to harvest for months, and instead of consuming everything and giving God the rest when you’re full, you acknowledge God as the source right at the beginning. If you are budgeting, put your intentional giving at the top. That will keep it from turning into leftovers.
