Whoever mocks the poor shows contempt for their Maker; whoever gloats over disaster will not go unpunished.

Commentary

There are many verses in Proverbs that talk about how laziness can lead to poverty. However, here is a clear warning not to mock those in poverty – by doing that, we show contempt for our Maker. Indeed, when Jesus lived on earth, he became poor for our sake.
