Hebrews 13:5

Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, "Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you."

Commentary

This verse from the closing of the letter to the Hebrews is fairly plain and clear. We are warned over and over in the Bible not to love or serve money, and to trust God as the provider of all things. We are called to be content with what God gives us.

Nonetheless, make sure to inspect your heart and your actions to see if you are being disobedient to God. Laziness is disobedience. Chasing after every shiny thing we pass in the store and squandering our wealth is disobedience. Repent of that. Contentment is not being passive. Contentment is being thankful. Be faithful with what God gives you. Be thankful for what God gives you.
